About software
Microsoft Office XP (also known in the beta phase as Office 10 and also known under the name Office 2002) is a Microsoft Office family suite distributed by Microsoft on the Microsoft Windows platform. This suite, which is the successor to Microsoft Office 2000 and predecessor to Office 2003, can be identified by the name ‘Office 10’ or its codename. In the USA, it was released March 5, 2001. It first made its way to European markets on August 4, 2001. The ‘Mainstream’support phase for Office XP came to an end on the 11th of July 2006. This was also the day that Windows 98/ME were discontinued. Extended support ended 12 July 2011. The tools within Office XP were assigned the title of “2002”, even if the suffix is “XP”. Word 2002, for example, was not named Word XP.
The end of clippy
A key element of the Microsoft Office XP advertising campaign was the removal of Clippy and other Office Assistants as a default option, which Microsoft knew were quite unpopular and unused among users. These features were not entirely removed in the 2007 version.
